Manny out-Foxed!
I’m guessing you’re as sick of the Manny Ramirez story as you are of all the Michael Jackson coverage? But please allow me to take on FOX while applauding someone who usually gets beat up on a regular basis by talking heads and baseball fans regularly. First, how in the world does FOX think it’s a good idea to give 60% of the country Manny and the Dodgers take on the Padres in San Diego? Sure the Dodgers are the NL’s best club but they are playing one of the worst teams in baseball in a city that really could care less about sports and was invaded by folks who visit “Manny Land” at Dodgers stadium. Then to top it off they ((FOX)) gave all of us Manny’s first at bat Saturday afternoon, and the no good cheating, sunglasses at press conference wearing, in desperate need of a haircut, quitter hits a home run! What kind of a message does this send to young athletes? That a caught cheater who disrespects the game gets his rehab at bats put on TV by ESPN and then FOX goes and cuts into every livingroom in the country to see this cheater blast a ball out of the park! Where is the outrage, where is the passion, or are we al just too fat, dumb, and happy to give a darn? Now onto someone who deserves some praise for once, Tim McCarver, yes the same Tim McCarver that every sportstalker and media columnist takes shots at on a regular basis. Here was his quote on the Manny cut in by FOX during his game between the Mets & Phillies, ((a game that I’m guessing 60% of the country would have rather seen?)) “It’s almost as though Manny Ramirez is being treated as if he’d been on the disabled list for 50 games. … Why all the adulation for a guy who has served a 50-game suspension when guys like Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds, Rafael Palmeiro and A-Rod served no suspensions, yet they’re branded?” Kudos to you Tim for not toeing the company line on this and telling the TRUTH, something that is missing far too much in sports today. I’m sick of Manny being Manny, ESPN being ESPN, and FOX being FOX. But if we all collectively don’t speak out against it things will never change.
