Plaxico Burress was released by the New York Giants this week. Anybody familiar with his history shouldn't be surprised. Terrell Owens was released by the Dallas Cowboys. Anybody surprised? Gary Sheffield was released by the Detroit Tigers. I'll ask again, anybody surprised? Jay Cutler was traded this week by the Denver Broncos. All these things and plenty before them makes very loud statements -- ENOUGH ALREADY!

The Giants, a fiercely loyal organization, offered Burress a contract extension laden with incentives, and he and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, rejected the offer. When they turned down the deal, the Giants said enough and cut him. He became more trouble than he was worth. Are the Giants a better football without Burress? Of course not. But they had no choice. The Cowboys aren't necessarily better without Owens the player, but they are without Owens the locker room pain in the butt. As for Sheffield, he's difficult to deal with, but age and productivity became the issue. And finally, Jay Cutler, who at 25 thought he should have been advised by new head coach Josh McDaniels and owner Pat Bowlen that he was on the trading block when McDaniels wanted Matt Cassel for the Broncos. In this case, the Broncos could have handled the situation better, but at the end of the day Bowlen had enough when his QB didn't return calls placed by him and the head coach.

There is no occupation I know of where the employer runs the business and he or she owes an explanation to the employee as to why decisions are made. In sports, athletes feel a sense of entitlement. Why?
