Clottey Will Upset Cotto
This weekend in New York Miguel Cotto will walk into Madison Square Garden to the cheers of almost all the 19,000 plus fans on hand. But, I think when he leaves the ring that night he will have lost his portion of the welterweight title to Joshua Clottey.
Clottey is at least a 3-1 underdog to beat Cotto, but I think this 32 year old from Ghana by way of New York has all the tools necessary to pull off the upset. Cotto is only 18 months removed from a fearful beating at the hands of Antonio Margarito. In the interim he has a win over C-level figther Michael Jennings. We don’t know how much the Margarito loss took out of Cotto. If he is less than what he was before—he will lose to Clottey.
Clottey has great defensive skills, a terrific chin and power in the left hook and right hand. He Is a hungry fighter who has had to claw for everything in his 13 year career. This is his moment of opportunity and I believe he will seize it. I have great respect for Cotto as a fighter, but I think this is an ill-timed match up with a fighter who is much better than most people, including Cotto, think he is. I see an exciting fight with a surprising ending.
